Environmental Compliance Audit Leads to Process Changes, Reduced Emissions and Costs – Kansas

By working with The Forrester Group, this Kansas aluminum window manufacturer achieved and maintained regulatory compliance. The primary hazardous wastes produced at the site were paint, paint-related solvents, and chromium. Through our reviews, we also identified pollution reducing chemical substitution and cost-saving process changes to reduce emissions.

The Forrester Group was initially hired to resolve a Notice of Violation (NOV) for improper hazardous waste management. We helped them prepare responses to KDHE and implement solutions that resolved their NOV with minimal penalties.

We also provided the new management team with operating procedures and personnel training associated with Title V air permitting, MACT compliance, air emission inventories, Tier II and Form R reporting, hazardous waste storage, disposal, and reporting, solid waste disposal permitting, process wastewater testing and reporting, storm water permitting, and pollution prevention. As a result of that work, this client engaged The Forrester Group to conduct periodic comprehensive compliance audits.

Comprehensive Environmental Audit for 100-Building Theme Park Completed In Four Days – Southwest Missouri

In only four days, The Forrester Group conducted a comprehensive audit for a theme park that covered 650 acres and over 100 buildings. The audit included drinking water supply, treatment of park wastewater, and a variety of manufacturing and maintenance processes. The audit covered environmental permits, reports, and plans, including air emissions; process wastewater; storm water; Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC); non-hazardous and hazardous wastes; universal wastes; Tier II; Form R; fuel storage tanks; and emergency planning.

The Forrester Group assisted with corrective actions for air emissions, SPCC, and waste management procedures (hazardous, solid, and universal wastes). We also presented training to more than 100 staff members on waste management and SPCC procedures.

Subsequent to the audit, our client asked us to conduct due diligence and asbestos surveys for property acquisition and building demolition. The client has expressed appreciation for our “customer service” attitude, based on the speed and comprehensiveness of our review.

Compliance Achieved and Maintained for Waste Handling and Disposal – North Dakota

The Forrester Group performed a hazardous waste audit of a large fiberglass manufacturing facility in North Dakota. Following a regulatory agency visit, the client asked us to provide guidance on regulatory compliance for solid and hazardous waste handling and disposal.

The format that we used to provide the recommendations allowed the facility managers to easily track areas of concern and progress in returning to compliance. We also provided waste reduction recommendations. By carefully pre-planning and structuring the audit to work around staff schedules, we minimized internal staff time needed to complete the audit.

From Chemical Reporting to Spill Prevention, Audit Delivers Environmental Security – Missouri

The Forrester Group completed a comprehensive environmental compliance audit for a pharmaceutical research and development facility in Kansas City, Missouri. Within a two-day period we reviewed environmental activities in six multi-floor buildings (more than 600,000 square feet). The audit addressed environmental permits, reports, and plans, including air emissions; refrigerants; process wastewater; storm water; Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC); non-hazardous and hazardous wastes; universal wastes; Tier II; Form R; aboveground storage tanks; and emergency planning.

Outstanding issues identified in the audit were expeditiously resolved and without penalties. The Forrester Group assisted with corrective actions for air emissions, chemical reporting, and DOT security plans. The audit also benefited the new EH&S Manager by ensuring that he was trained on the environmental compliance requirements and issues during the two-day audit. The Forrester Group continues to assist the facility with air permitting due to facility and production expansion, air emission reporting, and chemical reporting, including DHS Chemical Security Assessment Tool (CSAT).

Long Standing Relationship Provides Environmental and Safety Results – Missouri

The Forrester Group is a long-time provider of environmental and safety support to a confidential manufacturing facility located in southern Missouri. We have performed safety training for hazardous waste management and emergency response, assisted with Title V air permitting, prepared a Department of Transportation (DOT) security plan, and prepared an Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP) for the facility. The ICP coalesced a number of site plans to give the facility a concise, streamlined document for emergency response and management of hazardous waste, oil storage, and storm water.

The client benefits from our understanding of their facility. Our knowledge of existing and proposed regulations combined with facility knowledge allows us to quickly assess changes to facility processes and procedures.

Notices of Violation Issues Resolved, Civil Penalties Reduced – Missouri

Outside legal counsel for a private Missouri college hired The Forrester Group to assist in resolution of four Notices of Violation (NOV) for water and solid and hazardous waste issues. We assisted with the negotiation of the Settlement Agreement for the NOVs, which resulted in a 55-percent reduction of civil penalties. To resolve the NOV’s, we assisted the college with changes to hazardous waste management, upgrades to storm water collection and management systems, and capping of solid waste disposal sites. We also assisted with the favorable resolution of multiple OSHA citations, including providing detailed oversight of Chemical Hygiene Plan revision.

Based on our handling of the NOVs, the college engaged The Forrester Group to conduct a comprehensive environmental audit of the college under EPA’s Self-Audit Policy. As a result, several air emissions and permitting issues were resolved without penalties. We also worked with the leaders of the college to prepare and implement an environmental management system (EMS).
